Lesbian

Lesbian is a term to describe female aligned people and women who are attracted romantically and/or sexually to other female aligned people and women.
Lesbians don't experience attraction to men.
Lesbians come inder the bigger umbrella of "Saphhic" which is a term used to describe Women who are attacted to women. Sapphic doesnt say anything about attraction to men.

Gay

Gay (mlm) is a term to describe male aligned people and men who are attracted romantically or sexually to other male aligned people and men.
Gay people don't experience attraction to women.
Gay can also be used as an umbrella term for the entire community.

Bisexual

Bisexuality refers to sexual and/or romantic attraction towards more than one sex or gender.
Bisexuality is not exclusive to any gender and anyone can be bisexual.
Busexual women and female aligned people can be catergorized inder saphhics.

Transgender

Transgender refers to people whose gender identity is different from the gender they were assigned at birth (generally according to their sex).
People can transition from male to female, from female to male, or from male or female to non-binary.
Contrary to popular belief, it is extremely difficult to medically transition.

Queer

Queer is a term for unlabeled people who are not cisgender or heterosexual.

Some basic queer vocabulary

Cisgender - When you identify with your birth sex
Asexuality - Not experiencing sexual atrraction
Pansexual - someone attracted to people regardless of gender identity.
Sex- biological combination of your bodily organs, hormones, and chromosomes. Sex and gender are associated, but not the same nor interchangeable.
Gender expression- The way you express yourself to the world and what that has to do with the way you experience gender,
Non binary- your gender doesnt align with the binary genders, man and woman.
Misgender- The act of misgendering someone is the act of deliberately or accidentally referring to someone by the wrong gender assignation.
Gender dysphoria- The feeling of your appearance or outside perception of yourself not matching your gender identity. This can be treated through transition, but trans people could experience this in different ways for their whole lives.

The word "Gay" emerged as an underground word in the 1960'sThe word "Lesbian" comes from the island of lesbos where the poet Sappho wrote about falling in love with womenMost queer culture comes from queer POC in the '60s, especially Marsha P Johnson who started the stonewall riots that lead the gay pride movement to the forefront for the first time.
